Artico Gold for horses: experiences, effectiveness & dosage

Artico Gold is Horse Tonic's best-selling joint supplement. Discover how it works, the key ingredients and how riders experience results.

Artico Gold is the best-selling product in the Horse Tonic range. It is a liquid joint supplement for horses, developed for sport horses in competition or horses recovering from joint stress. Here is an honest breakdown of what it does, what is in it, and whether it is worth using.

What is Artico Gold?

Artico Gold is a concentrated liquid joint, tendon and muscle supplement for horses. It combines several well-studied active ingredients in a single formula that can be added directly to feed. The liquid format means faster absorption compared to many powder-based alternatives.

Active ingredients

  • Hyaluronic acid. the main lubricating component of synovial fluid. Oral supplementation has been shown to increase synovial fluid viscosity in horses under moderate to heavy work.
  • MSM (methylsulfonylmethane). a bioavailable source of sulphur. Sulphur is a building block for collagen, keratin and cartilage matrix proteins. MSM also has well-documented anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Glucosamine. supports cartilage repair and slows the enzymes responsible for cartilage breakdown.
  • Collagen type II. the primary structural protein in joint cartilage. Oral collagen supplementation in horses has shown improvements in joint mobility and comfort markers.

Dosage

Standard maintenance: 25ml per day mixed into feed. Performance loading (3 days before a competition, or during the first 4 weeks of use): 50ml per day. 25ml morning and 25ml evening. On competition day: 25ml approximately 3 hours before activity.

FEI status

Artico Gold is FEI-tested and certified doping-free. No withdrawal period is required. This is a firm requirement for any joint supplement used in competition horses. never use a product that has not been FEI batch-tested.

Who is it for?

  • Sport horses in regular competition (jumping, dressage, eventing)
  • Older horses showing early signs of joint stiffness
  • Horses returning from joint injuries or procedures
  • Horses on hard ground or in a heavy training block

What it will not do

Artico Gold is a supplement, not a veterinary treatment. It will not resolve severe arthritic changes or replace joint injections for horses with diagnosed joint disease. It works best as a preventive measure and to support horses already receiving veterinary care for joint problems.
